PURPOSE OF POSITION:  

To perform a variety of engineering support tasks of limited complexity related to the planning, design, construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair of public works facilities, including streets, water production and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, storm water conveyance systems, and parks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Extract data from maps, charts, drawings, reports, and field observations.  (15%) Produce CADD drawings of limited complexity and perform basic GIS data entry. (15%) Summarize data, perform calculations, make preliminary analyses, and present results in the form of maps, charts, drawings, and reports.  (15%) Perform basic construction inspection for Public Works infrastructure and erosion control.  Must be eligible to operate a city vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.  (15%) Assist engineers in other public works related tasks.  (30%) Maintain various records related to activities and findings.  (10%)

Knowledge of:

  • General engineering concepts, practices and procedures. Basic land surveying techniques. Geographic information systems.

Ability to:

  • Perform mathematical calculations. Read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Read and understand maps and construction drawings. Produce drawings of limited complexity in AutoCAD. Perform basic GIS data entry. Intermediate proficiency with MS Word, Outlook and Excel.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 Knowledge of general engineering practices and procedures as obtained by having a high school education and at least two years in a Civil Engineering (or closely related) curriculum, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above duties.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES:

Possession of valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
