The Opportunity: Director, MTSU School of Concrete & Construction Management
The College of Basic and Applied Sciences at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) invites applications for an innovative leader of its School of Concrete & Construction Management (SCCM). The position begins on August 1, 2023. Expedited tenure upon appointment is possible. MTSU seeks candidates committed to innovative teaching, robust research/creative activity, and meaningful service. We also seek to attract culturally and academically diverse faculty members who value working with diverse students.
The SCCM is home to two accredited B.S. programs—Construction Management and the first-of-its-kind Concrete Industry Management—in addition to a unique Concrete Industry Management MBA offered in partnership with MTSU’s Jennings A. Jones College of Business. The SCCM has shown robust growth over the past decade, more than doubling student enrollment to 370 in Fall 2022. Due to this success, the SCCM enjoys outstanding support from the university, industry advisory boards, and state government, which recognizes it as an essential engine for workforce development. Each fall at the SCCM career fair, 100+ employers from across the region come to recruit graduates. In October 2022, the School moved into a beautiful new, $40M state-of-the-art building featuring 54,000 square feet of classroom, laboratory, and office space.
The Role. The Director's primary responsibilities are administrative and academic leadership for SCCM, ensuring excellent program delivery, student success, and fostering support from within and outside the university. Specific responsibilities include student recruitment and retention, budget coordination, faculty/staff hiring and management/mentoring, academic scheduling, assessment, accreditation, reporting, and industry relations.
Qualifications. The successful candidate must possess a terminal degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related field and a record of excellence in teaching and research commensurate with earning academic tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or higher. In addition, the successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated long-term vision and leadership, the capacity to drive enrollment growth, and the ability to work productively with a broad range of constituents.
Candidates with prior accreditation experience with ATMAE, ABET, or ACCE will receive special consideration, as will those with five (5) years of professional construction/concrete experience in North America.
