Join our Traffic Design Team as a Transportation Engineering Senior where you utilize your traffic design knowledge and skills to create the best state transportation system for the citizens of Arizona, where you will work with industry and staff on innovative methods and technologies to enhance our traffic design standards. Under general supervision of the State Traffic Engineer you will perform complex technical traffic duties including evaluating new traffic related products and preparing and maintaining ADOT’s statewide standard traffic drawings and specifications, guidelines and processes, and AZ Supplement to the MUTCD, Manual of Approved Signs, reviews of proposed changes by The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) or National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD) to the current MUTCD. Please Note: This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Connect with others being the Chair of the Traffic and Safety Subcommittee
- Evaluate new traffic related products bettering the driving experience for all drivers in Arizona
- Utilize your valuable traffic skills working with talented staff while enhancing our traffic guidelines and processes and standard drawings and specifications
- Serve as compliance manager for statewide highway design projects ensuring consistency to guidelines and standards to produce quality products an a consistent safe driver expectation
- Make a positive impact on others through coaching and mentoring opportunities
The Ideal candidate for this position will have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering as well as experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineering grade 26.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
This position requires the incumbent to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona.
This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign PART 1 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.11 (H) and (I). The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT. Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
