Norfolk Partnership Laboratory (NPL) provide an experienced testing and consultancy service to the construction industry, performing a wide range of tests both onsite and at the laboratory and offering specialist advice to our clients.

As Assistant Engineer (Geology) for NPL you will support the Lead & Senior Engineers with designing, implementing and delivering consultancy work programmes, testing and engineering solutions to our clients.

Main Responsibilities will include:
  • Planning, conducting and supervising geotechnical investigations as required, including developing proposals and determining costings.
  • Reviewing and analysing findings, and preparing reports for Lead & Senior Engineers.
  • Conducting geotechnical logging both on-site and within the laboratory.
  • Data input onto geotechnical software to produce logs.
  • Producing CAD drawings for investigation, design and reporting purposes.
  • Ensuring that all work programmes are carried out in accordance with latest Health and Safety regulations (as Designer in accordance with the 2015 CDM Regulations).

Required Skills:
  • Hold a degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or closely related subject.
  • Full UK driving licence to meet travel requirements of the role including travel outside of Norfolk which may involve overnight stays when required.

Ideal Skills and Experience include:

You will have previous experience in geotechnical engineering, whilst also able to demonstrate:
  • Previous experience producing reports and providing expert recommendations and solutions.
  • Excellent ability to comply with defined guidance and industry standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working with geotechnical software.
  • CAD Skills.
  • Knowledge of East Anglian geology.
  • Membership of Geological Society of London.
