We are working with a successful, medium-sized Engineering Consultancy who have a requirement for the position of Consultant Principal Geotechnical Engineer based in Kingston upon Thames.
The Company:
Our client specialise in design and project management of port infrastructure developments, internationally.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Director and the Associates to ensure the smooth running of the business operations, and will manage the small, busy Geotechnical team, providing close support to principal engineers to help deliver geotechnical services in the marine sector, while also performing specific portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
The Role:
Carrying out geotechnical interpretation and supporting the structural team with geotechnical design needs.
Carrying out geotechnical analysis for foundations, slopes, retaining walls and ground improvement processes in complex marine environments.
Interacting with Clients on matters related to geotechnical aspects of the projects.
Attending visits to project sites as required to provide the necessary technical inputs
Preparing reports, including interpretative reports, specifications, and design reports in line with company quality assurance procedures and client requirements as well as applicable standards and codes of practice.
Skills & knowledge:
BEng degree in Civil Engineering.
Ideally an MSc in Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering or related subject.
10+ years industry background.
Thorough knowledge of soil mechanics and underlying geotechnical principles.
Knowledge of ground investigation techniques and in-situ and laboratory test methods for soil and rock.
Knowledge of Eurocode 7; knowledge of other parts of Eurocodes, advantageous.
Experience of using Plaxis software is desirable, but not essential.
Knowledge of geotechnical data interpretation and parameter derivation for design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and ground improvement.
Basic programming in VBA or Python. Experience with machine learning would be a plus.

Self-motivated with a desire for continual learning and improvement.
Ability to manage a team, mentoring and guiding two other geotechnical staff.
Adaptable and versatile.
The ability to work and communicate effectively with other members of the team
A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas.
A full UK driving licence
On Offer
Salary £50,000 - £60,000.
Full time role (40h per week).
Permanent.
Office based preferred, although hybrid working may be possible (min 3 days per week in the office).
