The City of Berkeley, California, is seeking a Manager of Engineering (City Engineer) to serve as the highly experienced and knowledgeable leader of the Engineering Division in the Public Works Department. The City Engineer will report to the Deputy Director of Engineering & Transportation while overseeing 40 staff, including six direct reports, and an approximate budget of $50 million. THE JOB

The Manager of Engineering (City Engineer) will oversee the work of the Engineering Division within the Public Works Department, including an approximate budget of $50 million and 40 staff; six of which are direct reports. While reporting to the Deputy Director of Engineering & Transportation, the City Engineer will oversee the preparation of plans, specifications, designs, estimates, and inspection of a variety of construction maintenance projects. This highly knowledgeable professional will serve as a technical adviser and valuable resource for the Division. They will also have staff management responsibilities, such as developing goals and work standards, developing management systems, and implementing work evaluations. The City Engineer will also serve as a project manager, closely overseeing budgets and progress. The City Engineer will regularly participate in meetings of City Council and the Transportation and Infrastructure Commission.

It's crucial that they possess an expert-level understanding of relevant codes, regulations, and guidelines and can provide exceptional service to our community members.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
 

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering Five (5) years professional civil engineering experience, of which at least two (2) years were at the management or supervisory level. Must possess a valid California Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.

Desired:

• Experience in contract administration, presenting at public meetings, and working with community organizations. A valid California driver's license.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The annual salary is $159,424 - $199,646 DOE/DOQ, plus a generous benefits package
