Highways Quantity Surveyor Wanted.

The Company

A friendly, creative contractor who have a successful track record delivering complex civil engineering packages, who are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their team! We are open to applications from both Project and Senior QSs but we also welcome Assistant QSs who are looking for progression.

This business is involved various civils and infrastructure construction projects across various sectors including residential, highways, industrial and commercial, flood defence and bridges and structures to name a few, this company has a strong client base with local authorities along with national and regional firms. Their aim is to deliver a high-end service and industry-leading civil engineering techniques and skills which set them apart from their competitors.

The Opportunity

The hiring contractor has a strong pipeline of work, within the highways division of the business. The highways division covers a mixture of small maintenance projects as well as large highways infrastructure projects, this is a mixture of local authority and national highways schemes. The size of the projects is a great variety, they range in value between £500,000 - £25 million. The types of works will involve drainage, concrete works, earthworks, piling, and structures.

As well as working on a great variety of schemes you will also have a great leadership team to support you when required. You will report to the Managing Surveyor or Commercial Manager depending on the Size of the project.

You will be involved successful financial completion of multiple construction projects from the pre-contract stage through to completion, as a key member of a successful project management team. You will also need to ensure the timely submission of all relevant data required to monitor and analyse individual contract performance on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects.
  • Supporting other more senior members of the commercial team in delivering the varied commercial duties as well as being responsible for procuring and managing our supply chain.
  • Actively seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality for our Customers.
  • Orders information and systematically checks data
  • Measure, record & value work unsupervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures
  • Translate measurement from drawings and Specifications and prepare Bills of Quantities and Schedules of rates
  • Review weekly, monthly, section programmes of works
  • Plan commercial activities to meet requirements of section programmes
  • Collation of Cost and Value Information
  • Preparation of Cost reconciliation statements
  • Undertakes customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility
  • Measurement of works and agreements with subcontractors


Qualifications and Attributes

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
