As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer you will:
  • Be working on buildings, highways, rail, power, water and utilities projects
  • Be responsible for the geotechnical design elements of these projects and ensure the delivery to client requirements
  • Comply with quality governance standards
  • Work to meet programmes and budget.
  • Control project resources including monitoring against budget
  • Prepare and oversee workstreams and programmes to deliver to deadlines
  • Develop and grow client relationships as well as win work with internal and external clients
  • Contribute to bid submissions
  • Provide geotechnical input and support the development of the teams geotechnical engineering capability
  • Guide, mentor and develop early career professionals.

A bit about the team
Due to an increase in Mott MacDonalds workload, we are recruiting for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Infrastructure team in the North West delivering highways, infrastructure and building projects for a diverse range of clients. The role will be primarily office-based; however, flexibility is required to work away from home in other offices, attend site visits, client meetings, and for site-supervision as may be required by our projects.

We are ideally looking for the role to be based out of one of our Northern offices (Altrincham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle).

Candidate Specification

Required for the position of Senior Geotechnical Engineer;
  • Experience in designing and delivering various geotechnical projects covering buildings, highway and infrastructure
  • 2D/3D Modelling experience using various relevant geotechnical software packages such as Plaxis, SlopeW, Wallap etc.
  • Worked with multi-disciplinary design teams and have proactively collaborated with members of staff and clients of all levels.
  • Degree qualified in civil or geotechnical engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered (or working towards) with a relevant professional institution such as the ICE or similar
  • Experience of geology, site surveys, geophysics and investigative techniques for characterisation of site / ground conditions
  • Production of drawings & technical specifications for construction
  • Commercial and financial awareness.

Preferred, but not required;
  • Ideally you have experience developing and mentoring staff or managing a team
  • Have supported the preparation of fee proposals and bid submissions.
  • The ability to obtain SC security clearance (this can be progressed post-appointment)
