Principal Civil / Structural Engineer

SENIOR CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL ENGINEER HERSHAM

Responsible to: Civil Engineering Manager

Contract duration: 6 Months

Qualifications
- The Senior Civil/Structural Engineer shall hold an engineering degree in Civil Engineering and preferably a chartered engineer in either the United Kingdom Institution of Civil Engineers or the Institution of Structural Engineers or equivalent recognized Institution..

Experience
- Civil and Structural experience in a Process Design Industry.
- Shall be proficient in the tasks below.
- Foundation design both shallow and piled for a variety of structures - dynamic equipment e.g. compressors, building foundations, static equipment and piperack structures
- The structural design of site built steelwork such as piperacks, buildings, Equipment supports.
- Underground gravity drainage experience is an advantage
- Have knowledge in the use of industry wide software package - STAAD-Pro,
- Use of various international design standards - AISC, IBC,ASCE, Eurocodes

Qualities
- Will be required to have a good approach to health and safety
- Abilities to work across multi discipline teams. He/she will be required to work independently representing the Civil Department
- An all-round flexible Civil and Structural Engineer willing to commit time and effort to achieve project requirements
- Be proactive and enthusiastic.
- Able to work with different cultures and diversity around the world, in particular with offices in India.
- Prepared to travel within Europe when required, for a few days duration
- Require very good communication skills in both verbal and written English

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Lead Civil/Structural Engineer on the project.
- Be a Civil/Structural Engineer to support the delivery of the civil and structural scope
- Up to Basic Engineering Phase and then hand over to the detail design Centre in India
- By undertaking the work independently
- Up to Basic Engineering and then review the detail design by an external design Company.
- Assist in the development of the Scope of Work for Plant Buildings ‘design and build' contracts (e.g. compressor houses, office building maintenance Building- Prefabricated or site built.)
- Provide hands on technical support with the development of foundations and steelwork structures concepts during the Proposal to generate the MTO Estimate.
- Assist with the development of the Functional Execution strategy
- Provide hands on technical support to develop the proposal concepts further in the Basic Engineering stage and update the MTO.
- Provide technical support during the detail design stage to review the work of Others against the Basic concepts.
- Suggest economical ways in designing the work.
