Our client Scottish Power Energy Networks are currently recruiting for a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to join their team based in Prenton on a long term contract position. Ideally for this role they are looking for a candidate with strong Civil or Structural Engineering experience as well as a background in a relevant sector such as Energy, Renewables or Oil and Gas. Senior Structural/Civil Engineer, Position Overview:
Our industry is going through an unprecedented level of change as we journey towards Net Zero. SP Energy Networks are undertaking multiple projects simultaneously as we overhaul our network to enhance resilience and secure electricity supply to support our communities' economic growth. The role involves undertaking civil and structural engineering design of new substations and assessing existing assets on our 132kV network. The role is hybrid with 2-3 days based at SPEN Prenton offices in Wirral, visiting sites and remaining working from home.
Project activities for role include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Structural and civil engineering assessment of existing assets
• Prepare design calculations at project tender and detailed design stages
• Undertake analysis and design using a range of software packages including STAAD, TEDDS
• Provide assistance at project feasibility and construction stages
• Liaise with other members of the design team to achieve a coordinated design solution
• Review designs and drawings undertaken by others
• Ensure that quality and consistency of technical output is maintained
• Prepare high quality design reports, technical specifications and structural surveys
Qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
• Close to or Chartered status (MICE or MIStructE)
• A good knowledge of structural and civil engineering design principles and material properties
• An understanding of construction methods with varied experience in all the common forms of construction
• Experience in the use of Eurocodes and British Standards
• Great attention to detail and pride in design quality
• Experience of structural analysis design and software
• 7-years experience or more preferred
• Full clean driving license
• Experience working in electrical industry is desirable although not essential
Skills:
• Good numeracy and computer skills
• Good communication skills
• Good problem-solving skills
• The ability to work as part of a team
• The ability to meet deadlines
