Our contract Engineer position can be extended to a permanent role.

The DOTI Transportation and Mobility Engineering (TME) is seeking a Staff Engineer with interest in transportation and traffic engineering to support the work that is completed under the City Traffic Engineer. The TME team is a division that supports other DOTI divisions, responds to customer requests for transportation operational changes, reviews and revises signal timing and sets transportation standards for all of DOTI. This division supports numerous programs including Vision Zero, Safe Routes to Schools, Bicycle Network Planning and Implementation, Pedestrian Program, Neighborhood Transportation Management Program, event planning, and houses the area engineer program.  The team also utilizes staff augmentation through consultant supplied services.

Examples of work delivered through this Division include:

Intersection Control changes and work orders for our Transportation Operations team to implement

In-house bicycle, transit, and pedestrian enhancement design

Updates to Rules and Regulations including Complete Street Standards

In the TME Staff Engineer role you will have the ability to make a direct impact in bettering our city by implementing safe and equitable transportation mobility improvements that benefit all residents and the traveling public. Our team works with other City departments, design consultants, community stakeholders, and outside agencies to design and implement improvements. As a member of the TME team, you will be responsible for:

Investigating, reviewing, and creating designs that address issues identified from constituent transportation inquiries. You will use relevant design guidelines and policies to support your response and inquiry resolution.

Designing and assisting in implementation of all types of transportation projects including pedestrian safety, bikeways, transit ways, traffic signal timing, and other projects

Coordinating with DOTI Operations staff on the installation of transportation projects

Communicating with city council, constituents, Denver Police and other community members

Performing occasional after-hours work for community meetings, special events support, and field observations

About You
Our ideal candidate will have:

Experience in transportation and/or traffic engineering

Knowledge and understanding of transportation engineering best practices using current design guides and manuals

Strong analytical skills to interpret and draw conclusions from a variety of data sources including but not limited to crash reports, traffic volumes, traffic speeds and other geo-spatial data sets

The ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, community members and agency partners

Experience creating designs in AutoCAD or other design software

Desire to grow their career with the team

Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Experience Requirement: None

License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver’s License at time of application

Registration as an Engineer Intern issued by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application

Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation

Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
