Our client is an award winning, large Geo-Environmental Consultancy who have a requirement for a Geo-environmental Engineer, based in Glasgow.

Overview

Working alongside an experienced team-based UK-wide, you will get involved with a wide variety of geotechnical projects covering sectors including energy infrastructure, renewables (solar/ wind) and development/ regeneration projects. Key clients include Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN), Scottish Power Renewables, Tier 1 contractors including Morrison and Wills Bros, and development projects for local authorities commissioned through the Scotland Excel engineering consultancy framework.

This is a full time, permanent role.

Responsibilities

- Undertaking Preliminary Risk Assessments (Phase 1 Desk Studies) and intrusive site investigations for environmental and/or geotechnical purposes in line with national standards and codes of practice.

- Managing fieldwork activities and subcontractors.

- Supporting the project manager in planning new projects, including liaising with subcontractors and suppliers and preparing health, safety, environment and quality (SHEQ) documentation.

- Scheduling soil and water samples for analytical and geotechnical testing.

- Writing factual and interpretative reports.

- Supporting tender managers in preparing fee proposals.

Requirements

- At least 1-2 years relevant industry background.

- Background in undertaking desk studies including review of geology and historical maps and other third party data, and completing Preliminary Risk Assessments.

- Background in supervising intrusive site investigations, including leading fieldworks.

- Knowledge of SHEQ issues affecting site works.

- Background in managing sub-contractors, undertaking sampling and drafting laboratory schedules;

- in undertaking environmental monitoring including groundwater and ground gas, and low flow groundwater sampling;

- in preparing and assisting with interpretative reports for geo-environmental and geotechnical - purposes.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.

- Ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise workload.

- Able to work independently and as part of a team.

- Computer literate and skilled with Microsoft Office applications in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to use of Microsoft Project also valuable.

- Proactive approach to professional development with current (or aspiring) membership of a relevant professional body.

- Must be willing to spend a significant amount of their working day out on site and away from home.

- Full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

- BSc degree level qualified in Geology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or a related subject essential.

- MSc in Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering or Contaminated Land related subjects preferable but not essential.
