What is the role?

We are recruiting for a Graduate Engineer to work in our busy Technical Department. As a Graduate Engineer you will work within the Technical team, under the supervision of the Engineering Manager to assist with the in-house/external designs and liaising with Engineering Consultants for various residential projects.

The role of a Graduate Engineer is to support the team managing a number of housing developments through the delivery of cost effective engineering solutions whilst developing their own skillset. The successful candidate must be adaptable, and be confident liaising internally with both the team as well as external parties.

The role will include working with the:
  • Assist in the production of layouts and technical reports for Land Appraisals; and required working drawings
  • Brief and commission site investigations, topographical survey and other assessment reports on land acquired
  • Brief engineering consultants on scope of design, which includes roads, sewers, private drainage, retaining walls, foundation designs any other substructures below DPC level either private or adopted
  • Assisting with in-house design from viability to detailed consent and construction
  • Initial negotiations/enquiries with statutory bodies and utility undertakers on environmental, drainage, highways and other engineering issues when appraising land
  • Issue engineering information to Commercial, Construction and Sales departments
  • Answering Technical queries
  • Comply with responsibilities as laid down in the Group's Health, Safety and Environment Policy

What we need from you?
  • Either recently qualified to HNC level (or working towards qualification) or equivalent in a civil engineering or building-related discipline with some residential project experience
  • Desired but not essential; the candidate to be conversant with current building regulations and CDM. You will also have some knowledge of current SEPA/Water Authority/Local Authority regulations and adoption agreements
  • Must have excellent knowledge of AutoCAD and be able to communicate effectively with both internal departments and external bodies
  • Desired but not essential; have good knowledge of Roads/Drainage/Earthworks modelling packages such as WinDes/InfoDrainage, PDS/Site 3D
  • You must be an enthusiastic and hardworking individual who is willing to undertake all necessary training
