Be part of the most exciting and challenging nuclear energy projects, and together we will help Britain achieve net zero. Hinkley Point C (HPC) is vital to the UK'S future energy strategy. The Construction Fire Safety Engineer's role is to determine, manage, drive and coordinate construction Fire Safety projects for the construction phase of the project before permanent fire safety solutions and systems are available. Promote the development of a positive fire safety culture amongst a wide array of contractors and stakeholders, support the development and implementation of fire safety systems and policies. An academically demanding position requiring significant technical knowledge. As the project develops most of the permanent systems will not be installed until the closing stages therefore analysing the risk presented, explore temporary solutions and work with construction professionals to enable implementation/installation of the temporary systems.
What you will be doing:
* Design and implement temporary fire safety standards and systems to support the construction phase of HPC.
* Writing and publishing fire safety engineering-related guidance for the Construction Project to meet legislative requirements and best practices.
* To provide fire safety engineering advice and guidance to the Principal Contractor, wider Contractor base and relevant committees to support the development of fire safety arrangements
* To develop, maintain, and review the implementation of temporary construction fire safety solutions and standards.
* To provide Fire Safety advice to Project Managers and design teams to develop building fire engineering strategies.
* To act as an advisor to construction, health and safety groups on matters relating to construction fire safety engineering strategy, design and implementation.
* To maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of matters relevant to the post by means of literature searches, contacts with professional bodies, courses, and conferences.
What you will need:
* Knowledge and experience of Fire Safety Design standards such as BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 9999, BS 7974 & PD 7974
* Working knowledge of complex construction fire safety management, relevant legislation and regulation, along with fire safety equipment, systems and Fire Safety Roles.
* A good working knowledge/understanding of process fire risk in relation to construction and commissioning-based activities and fire safety implications in relation to DSEAR.
* Ability to assimilate, analyse and present complex problems, identify necessary action, make recommendations and ensure actions are implemented.
* Experience of project management and driving the collective effort to achieve required outcomes.
* Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders at all levels.
* Degree qualified in a suitable engineering discipline Level 5 Qualification in Fire Engineering or equivalent level qualification.
* Membership in an appropriate professional organisation (e.g. Institute of Fire Engineers).
* Experience in successfully developing and implementing construction fire safety projects
