We're looking for a Construction Manager with expertise in UK construction to join us and play a key role in continuing our organic growth plans over the next 3-5 years.

An office will be available you in Newport Pagnell, however, will be expected to be based on site at Rotherham until 2024. You may also be required to visit and work at other sites around the UK and Ireland within that time and thereafter.

What will your role look like?

As the Construction Manager for Civil Engineering at Welcome Break, you will be part of the UK Developments team, involved with co-ordinating and delivering the civils package for Motorway Service Area and Trunk Road Service Area development projects in the UK, ensuring provision of a quality product, managed efficiently, safely and professionally; within set budgets and agreed timescales.

The role will manage the civils aspects of developments and refurbishment projects, from design, inception and buildability to coordination of design teams and construction delivery onsite.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the procurement, external consultants and appointed sub contractors, ensuring Planning Permission compliance requirements are met and Liaising with local authorities and utility bodies
  • Oversee the preparation of scopes and budgets relating to civils package, and tracking progress and spend as construction progresses, ensuring budgets are adhered to.
  • Ensure that all statutory and company safety requirements are met, and ensure corporate governance responsibilities are adhered to by actively promoting best practice throughout the company, complying with Health and Safety responsibilities to ensure a safe working environment for employed, subcontractors and members of the public.
  • Effective Management of the Construction function to ensure best practices are followed. Providing build programmes and monitor and review in conjunction with the Development Team to ensure adherence.
  • Manage the appointment of suitable sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure adequate resources and expertise to achieve required quality within agreed timescales.
  • Monitor and inspect developments regularly to ensure that all quality control procedures are being adhered to and that the highest standards of build are being achieved and reflected in good NHBC Audit results.
  • Ensure site and build costs are being controlled within budget. Attend meetings to review costs and take necessary action to rectify variances.

About you

Ideally, you will have:
  • Degree educated ideally in property / construction or similar disciplines with a minimum of 5 PQE experience.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety working practices in construction.
  • Ability to work within the constraints of a budget.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and working considerations
  • Strong time management, to manage conflicting priorities, including balancing moderate or high levels of work and project focuses.
  • High levels of integrity and judgement and the principles of equality & diversity are a core value
  • Confidence to challenge non-compliance.
