Principal Geotechnical Engineer - Overhead Lines (OHL)

If so, J Murphy and Sons Ltd are currently looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer join our award-winning Energy team. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will have to provide a cost conscious and safe engineering service to a variety of projects. The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will also have to manage engineers and assist the Project Manager in current operations.
Following the ‘One Murphy' approach, we're able to deliver all aspects of the projects we work on. J. Murphy & Sons has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients such as National Grid, SSE and Ørsted, on both transmission and distribution networks within the Energy sector.

What you will be doing
Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHES department.
Effectively scope, plan and manage production of design documentation from tender through to project implementation stage
Provide a technical assessment and review of 3rd Party designs, ensuring compliance with the brief to meet client and Murphy requirements.
Resolution of technical project issues, incidents, defects and failures, incident investigation, examining causes of failure, rectification analysis, review, advice and redesign.
Maintain responsibility for the storage, filing and archiving of documents relevant to design tasks.
Manage the financial and commercial aspects of the project with the support of Engineering Manager, monitoring progress against, and ensuring the project is delivered to programme and budget.
Seek regular formal and informal feedback from clients on design work and that it is collated and saved in accordance with procedure, noting lessons learned and ensuring continuous improvement.
Undertaking Design Risk Assessments and actively contributing to project HARARD/HAZID/HAZON reviews
Coordinating with Design coordination/management functions and interfacing with other design disciplines.
Reviewing client ITTs
Developing civil design and construction strategies including producing scope of works
Identifying key project risks and opportunities developing potential mitigation measures
Engaging consultants and other specialist suppliers through the procurement function
Who are we looking for?
IEng/CEng with ICE, IStructE or IET.
Background of undertaking the geotechnical scoping and design of linear infrastructure projects
Ability to undertake desktop geotechnical reviews at the early route feasibility stage, author Ground Investigation scope documentation and supervise site survey works
Enact the role of the geotechnical engineering lead on OHL transmission projects including the production and checking of Geotechnical Interpretive Reports
Experience in the design and construction of foundations, piling and ground improvement techniques.
Understanding of CDM and ability to undertake design and construction Risk Assessments
Demonstrable experience of supporting the planning and construction of OHL projects including knowledge of installation methodologies and associated temporary works.
Familiarity with proprietary OHL Design Software such as PLS-CADD and Tower.
Background of undertaking the design of linear infrastructure projects 132/275/400kV OHL Transmission projects, tower refurbishment, line upgrading and tower modification projects
