Develop designs in accordance with the Clients requirements and relevant design standards to achieve cost effective solutions. These will include British Standards, European Standards and industry specific design standards developed by the likes of National Grid. The range of designs will include substation equipment

Various steel frames, pipe gantries, and access structures.

· Develop to advanced level design packages, in the use of structural analysis software (

Preferably STAAD Pro Connect Edition, Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, MS Office. Also, competent to carry out design of structural connections using hand calculations.

· Represent the structures department in multi-disciplinary project teams.

· Prepare and check structural reports, design calculations, structural analysis models and other written documents.

· Keep up to-date with industry developments and changes in standards.

· Collaborate with other disciplines and offices within the company to develop successful designs and solutions to engineering problems.

· Travel to client and supplier facilities (UK wide) as required.

· Develop a good understanding of the background of our clients business and Richard Alans services to the energy sector and develop and maintain professional relationships which can secure repeat business.

Essential Skills and Competencies

Minimum 5 years of industry experience and a Masters/ Bachelors degree in civil & structural engineering.

Desirable:

Ability to design a variety of steel structural elements and components.

· Experienced in conducting site surveys and prepare assessment reports for existing structures.

Near Chartered with IStructE.(Working towards Chartership with the Institution of Structural Engineers).

The successful candidate will be working on a wide range of projects across Ireland, UK and Europe. You will have the responsibility for the preparations of outline designs, detailed designs, and technical specifications.

Qualifications and Experience

· A degree in Structural Engineering (BEng, 2:1 or above);

· Minimum of 4 years experience as a Structural Designer/Engineer

· Ambition to work towards Chartered status.

· Experience in structural steel designing.

Strong knowledge of STAAD Pro and Tekla Structures

Duties

Preparing structural designs/analysis and drawings (including general arrangement and fabrication drawings)

Performing calculations (using software or hand calculations) to check the integrity of structures/elements and components.

· Selecting appropriate construction materials.

· Providing technical advice.

· Liaising with colleagues to deliver projects.

· Monitoring and inspecting work

· Communicate effectively and professionally with all internal and external stakeholders.

- To undertake the design and development of projects from inception to completion as may be required, to ensure their timely and efficient execution, including but not limited to visiting sites for appraisal and during construction, preparation of drawings in electronic format, hand drawn sketches, calculations, correspondence, reports, etc. Also contribute to design discussions both within the office and with, clients, and other professionals.

- Understand and be able to use suitable specialist CAD, BIM and Computer Structural Analysis software relevant to projects and work towards continuing improvement, as directed by the company.

No specific experience on the software used in the company is required, but the ability to learn new software will be essential.

- Ability to submit hand drawn sketches to express design concepts to stakeholders and other design team members.

- To discuss all work-related matters with the Directors and to bring to the Directors attention any matter which might affect the liability of the practice in relation to the work undertaken.

- Follow the office procedures manual, office health and safety manual and other rules as laid down from time to time by the Directors. Adopt and propose changes to methods of work to maximise profitability of projects by implementation of standards as directed.

- Develop your professional knowledge with professional literature and to keep up with changing Codes of Practice, British Standards, European Standards and design guides. Relevant course fees will be paid for agreed activities.

- Develop an understanding of statutory, technical, and environmental considerations and develop the ability to provide technical solutions to meet those obligations.

- Develop an understanding of contractual issues, construction costs and risks relating to delivery of projects.

- Develop the good name and business of the Practice by positively following office procedures, maintaining a professional attitude towards existing and prospective clients and allied professionals.

- Develop an ability to prioritise in a diverse and busy role to deliver results for the business and monitor progress towards individual objectives acting on issues that may affect the delivery timeline.

- A flexible attitude to both the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility given.

- The ability to make decisions, act on your own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.

- Be able to adapt to different cultures and working environments.

- Work towards chartership accreditation with the Institution of Structural Engineers.

- When the project requires it, travel to site and undertake structural surveys, prepare the specification for exploratory and geotechnical investigation works, inspect the investigations, and visit construction sites to help resolve site queries and respond to the information requested
