Role Title Geotechnical Engineer
Responsible to Associate Director
Responsible for NA
Location Birmingham
Summary
To provide geotechnical data assessment for foundation, earthworks and pavement design
This role will have an element of remote working and will involve travelling to sites within the UK. A full driving licence will be necessary.
Key Responsibilities
• Preparation of preliminary risk assessment reports.
• Participate in ground investigation procurement, supervision and management.
• Undertaking ground investigation including trial pitting, soil and water sampling, gas monitoring and logging of soils and rock cores to relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.
• Preparation of laboratory testing schedules.
• Liaising with internal and external clients, contractors and other interested stakeholders
• Provide geotechnical data assessment for foundation, earthworks and pavement design, for developments ranging in size from small residential to large commercial schemes.
• Participate in more specialised geotechnical projects including, but not limited to retaining wall design, slope stability analysis and mineral stability assessment and remediation.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
Understanding of UK geology and geotechnical engineering / soil mechanics principles
Display interest or experience of ground investigation and laboratory testing techniques, including logging of soil and rock core samples to relevant British Standards and Eurocodes
Geotechnical design of foundations and earthworks, and the preparation of geotechnical reports
Desirable
Interest/experience of slope stability assessment and remediation techniques, including the use of applicable modelling software
Interest/experience of mineral stability and subsidence investigations Broad understanding of related disciplines including contaminated land, hydrogeology and flood risk
A graduate member of a relevant professional body with the intention of working towards chartered status
Skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
