Job Title: Structural Design Engineer
Job Type: Permanent

Salary: £45K - £55K DOE plus profit share scheme up to 15%

Premier Engineering has engaged with a new client and a leading independent global supplier of complete solutions within the Energy sector. Due to continued growth, we are looking to expand their engineering team. Primarily supporting the Energy sector, the successful candidate will have experience of structural design and a strong appreciation for general mechanical engineering. An understanding of Gas Turbine auxiliary equipment would also be of benefit.
Primary Function
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, support pre and post contract design activities for a range of engineered solutions for, amongst others, the Energy sector. This will encapsulate Renewable, Fossil Fuel, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Waste-2-X.
Work both independently and as part of a team during all phases of the project lifecycle, from concept design through to successful delivery and commissioning.
Take a professional and progressive approach to supporting the businesses engineering needs. This will include regular interaction with both internal and external customers, and suppliers.
Ensure that internal and external deadlines are met at all times. On time delivery and customer satisfaction form the ethos of our business.Primary Duties
Support the Sales phase by preparing concept design sketches, calculations, and attending customer meetings both in the UK and overseas
Review and interpret customer requirements provided in the form of specifications, drawings or international standards
Perform detailed engineering calculations across a number of disciplines related to structural design, including; steel frame analysis, connection design, foundation design, analysis of fabricated structures/vessels, lifting equipment design, finite element analysis (FEA) and general mechanics. These calculations may be performed using software or hand calculation, as appropriate
Communicate details to enable the production of manufacturing documentation
Produce customer documentation as a contract deliverable or to support product/supplier approvals
Ensure that products are designed to budget whilst meeting customer requirements
Assist with the production of operation and maintenance manuals/instructions Complete site surveys and condition assessments, produce technical reports and recommendations as appropriate
Provide technical support to both internal and external customers on an ad-hoc basis
Take a pro-active approach to research and development, striving to become a market leader
Develop best practices within the design team, constantly striving for continuous improvement
Keep up to date with latest practices, industry standards and available design technology
Identify and Implement new software to support best practiceKNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
Experience of structural analysis using recognised software and first principles, working to international standards/codes, in particular Eurocodes/ISO/EN
Experience of connection and foundation design using recognised software and first principles
Experience of developing mathematical calculations using Microsoft Excel, Mathcad or similar
A high level of understanding of steel frame structures/components and manufacturing techniques
Understanding of the Construction Design and Management regulationsDesirable
Experience of structural analysis using the Autodesk Robot software package
Good understanding of fabricated structures/components and manufacturing techniques
Experience of complex component design using FEA
Experience of designing air handling/filtration systems
Ability to interpret/create piping and instrumentation diagrams
Experience of structural analysis using American standards/codes i.e. AISC, ASMEQUALIFICATIONS
Essential
Civil or Mechanical Engineering Qualification to HND level or equivalentDesirable
Civil or Mechanical Engineering Degree, preferably to 2:1 level
5 Years industry experience in a relevant field
