Two fantastic opportunities at a busy and successful, Medium-sized Contractor who are looking to fill the positions of Graduate Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Engineer, based in Glasgow.

Overview

Our client is a leader in the field of ground investigation, providing site investigation services on a national scale. Their highly qualified, experienced staff and in-house drilling services deliver an efficient and flexible service which can be tailored to clients' needs. They also provide insitu site testing services for earthworks design and validation, as well as post fieldwork monitoring.

Full training is offered for both positions, which involve assisting with the organisation and delivery of site investigation projects. This includes full accountability for all site-based logistics and activities, and the effective site management of all technical, commercial and HSEQ (health, safety, environment and quality) components of each project and staff assigned to you and within your scope of responsibility.

The Geo-Environmental Engineer is expected to ensure that all site work and technical output is carried out to a high standard, safely, on time and within budget. Key division of time spent on each part of the job will be set on an annual basis and reviewed regularly.

Responsibilities

Main:

- Site walkovers and attendance at pre-start meetings.

- Support the preparation of construction phase plans, incorporating RAMS.

- Support the preparation of environmental management plans.

- Support the preparation of site establishment and logistics plans.

- Support the preparation of equipment and consumables lists and arrangement of purchases / orders.

- Read, understand and ensure compliance with project start-up information packs, including specifications and drawings, drilling instructions, utility service drawings and other project related information.

- Organisation, implementation and supervision of the site work phase including all SHEQ components and compliance with all in-house procedures and audits.

- Prepare and deliver site safety inductions and tool box talks.

- Review statutory utility service plans and prepare / issue permits to dig.

- Demonstrate commercial awareness relating to contract variations and changes along with prompt and accurate notification to the Project Manager.

- Exercise efficient cost control awareness.

- Undertake accurate soil, rock core and trial pit sampling and logging, including compilation of typed engineer's logs and completion of chain of custodies.

- Undertake (or supervise) in situ testing (e.g. hand vanes, DCP, soakaways).

- Technical report writing.

- Post-fieldwork monitoring and surveying.

- Monitor staff competency on site.

- Monitor hours of work compliance on site.

- Monitor drug and alcohol compliance on site.

Project management and technical excellence:

- Execution of ground investigations.

- Contract management on site to including delivery of projects on time and to maximise profits from each contract.

- Contribute expertise and provide input into the siteworks of new projects.

- Prepare and deliver technical reports.

Monitoring and auditing:

- Assist the project managers in monitoring contractual and assurance performance.

Requirements

- Full, clean driving licence.

- Background as Geo-Environmental Engineer / Geotechnical engineer OR Graduates with relevant degrees - Civil Engineering, Earth based etc.
