Senior Geotechnical Engineer

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Scotland. We have design hubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen together with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn and Huntly.

Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.

Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.

These long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages of their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland's arterial road network.

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play an important part in taking a leading role in project design and delivery, influencing the way that we deliver our geotechnical services to shape societal and environmental needs.
The standard hours of work are
40 hours per week.

You will be responsible for

• Undertaking a wide range of geotechnical design work associated with new infrastructure and maintenance of existing assets. Geotechnical design verifications of reinforced earthworks, retaining walls and structure foundations.
• Scope, plan and manage effective ground investigations to facilitate all project design requirements
• Assisting in mentorship, development, and supervision of project team members
• Representing the ground engineering team on multi-disciplinary project teams
• Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, management and reporting of project resources and finances
• Reviewing and approving feasibility studies, outline designs and detailed designs, factual and interpretive reports, geotechnical appraisals, drawings and other technical documents as required
• Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options
• Developing and maintaining good working relationships with the Client and other relevant stakeholders
• Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
• Supervising team members including engineers, senior technicians, and assistant/graduate engineers

We want to hear from you if you have

• BSc/BEng, MEng/MSc in Civil Engineering or a Geotechnical/Geological Science
• Chartered Engineer (CEng or equivalent)
• Computer literate with good experience using geotechnical software
• Previous experience on highways schemes
• Good experience in geotechnical design
• Good communication skills dealing with clients, project partners, supply chain, elected representatives, and the public
• Client-focused approach to service delivery
