Senior Environmental Test Engineer

Job Overview:

To design, plan and organise environmental testing (climatic, vibration, EMC, etc.) of material, assemblies and systems to prove that they meet the design and customer requirements. The ability to handle multiple projects and identify synergies between projects and process efficiency is key to success in the role, as is time management and the ability to assimilate complex product and test information. To produce detailed, precise, and technical documentation to describe the test procedure to be enacted, criteria against which success shall be measured and requirements being met for a variety of systems. To ensure through direct supervision, compliant and ultimately safe performance of all testing for which the test engineer has been allocated responsibility. To generate through test, data analysis or a combination of the two, credible and substantive evidence to demonstrate compliance with the environmental requirements of customer specifications.

To produce detailed, precise, and technical test reports to present the results, analysis, and technical discussion in order to obtain customer approval. To support the personal and technical development of other engineers To provide technical support for queries raised both internally by Environmental Test colleagues as well as by other departments and external customers. SME on multiple systems under speciality and with a detailed understanding of how multiple systems interact. Develops innovative solutions to unique problems. Professional abilities & technical accomplishments are recognised throughout the department.

Responsibilities:
  • Safety Comply with procedures and instructions relating to H&S issues; participate in H&S training, follow instructions, and promote a safety culture in the department.
  • To assist in the creation of risk assessments for the tests being planned.
  • Operational Excellence Plan own work and assist with the planning of engineers against project milestones.
  • To assist with improvements to task estimation. Conduct detailed analysis of any failure encountered during the test and implement actions from the investigation.
  • Own and complete Continuous Improvement Actions and Projects Customer Experience Managing assigned work-flows to produce deliverable on-time and in full Contribute suggestions for design improvement based on lessons learned through testing.
  • Technology and Service Excellence Coordinate and supervise product testing performed both within the Environmental test facility and appointed external service providers.
  • Evaluate post test data, through reduction analysis and interpretation of instrumentation data and develop analysis tools.
  • Preparation of Test Procedure, plans and schedules to include test facility selection and oversight, test design and fixture development. Prepare and issue technical Test Reports for review and approval by customer(s) both internal and external to MBA.
  • Assist in the development of test programmes to satisfy programme and customer requirements.
  • Assist with the review of all team generated documents (test procedures, reports and instructions) Provide guidance and support to junior test engineers on issues of test conduct, results interpretation and fault investigations.
  • Call and chair Test Readiness Reviews as required to ensure the robust delivery of the test campaigns. People Excellence Provides guidance to groups of the department. Reviews own work carefully and reviews work and decisions of others in the group.
  • Act as a leader within the department to guide development of more junior engineers.

Requirements:
  • 2.1 / 1st degree qualified or equivalent gained through work experience Specific / Technical Skill A good planner of own work and that of others.
  • Understands how to prioritise and schedule tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of Test and Measurement Instrumentation. Knowledge of signal processing and analysis.
  • Good knowledge of electronic systems and EEE/EMC test techniques and systems. Extensive data analysis skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint tools.
  • Other requirements: Good team working ability and interpersonal communications skills are critical.
  • Flexibility to perform multiple roles as part of a small team. Outgoing personality and ability to identify improvements and effect change

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Solid experience in developing and managing test programmes Familiarity of Military and civilian test standards including MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, MIL-HDBK-240, MIL-STD-704, EN61204-3
  • Highly developed communication skills: able to communicate verbally, in presentation format and in writing at senior level; able to develop links with other technical specialists within the business.
  • Test Procedure generation and review experience. Strong electrical test/design, academic and management skills developed through experimentation and classroom based teaching & project work.
