We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Engineer for Transportation to join our Amey Consulting team in Scotland. We have design hubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen together with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn and Huntly.

Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.

Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.

These long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages of their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland's arterial road network.

As an Assistant Engineer for Transportation, you'll see your work from early design to the very end result, and every project will be different from the last. You will undertake the production of technical designs and work as part of a dedicated design engineering team.
The standard hours of work are
40 hours per week.

You will be responsible for
  • Developing effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief.
  • Undertaking a wide range of design work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance.
  • Implementing effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements.
  • Progressing projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements and innovation.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM
  • Assisting with contract preparation together with project planning and programming.
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees.
  • Completing performance appraisals with direct reports and provide learning and development opportunities where possible.
  • Providing support to the Engineer and Senior Engineer within the design team on various design duties

We want to hear from you if you have
  • A Bachelors or Master's degree in an appropriate subject
  • Made progress towards completion of a formal professional training programme with an appropriate professional body
  • Demonstrable experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalent
  • Produced technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working under supervision
  • Are experienced in following procedures associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Are able to comply with technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
