Structural engineer (Highways structures)

£37000-£43000 + Full hybrid working + Progression + Excellent benefits + 26 days holiday + Bank holidays (ability to earn an extra 26 days)
Excellent opportunity for a structural engineer from a civils background to join a public-sector organisation who will offer you an empowered working environment, technically interesting role, great work life balance and career development.
You will be working on projects from retaining walls through to half a kilometre tunnels. You will carry out the design of improvements or strengthening of existing structures and the design of new structures.
You will also contribute towards formulating the long term capital programme for our structures assets. As well as carrying out the inspection of our existing structures assets. Supervising the work of other team members, you will provide guidance and mentoring of those team members where necessary and contribute to the on going development of Quality Management processes and procedures.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in a highways or civil engineering background. Have a minimum of 2 years experience in highway structures.

The role:
*You will carry out the structural design for major maintenance, improvement or strengthening of existing structures and the design of new structures using current codes of practice and European standards.*In the role you will carry out technical approval reviews and supervision of construction of developer promoted structures*The role includes the management of road restraint systems inspections, replacements and improvements*You will prepare Approval in Principle documents in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges*On a daily basis you will manage projects within the Council's overall capital programme and carry out asset management activities including calculating replacement costs, lifecycle planning and depreciation modelling*You will carry out Principal and General Inspections of our Structures Assets*It is essential that communicate effectively with stakeholders, developers, internal departments and colleagues and able to work within a multi-disciplinary environment and meet deadlines.The person:
*You will have a Degree, Level 5 NVQ or equivalent in a highways or civil engineering related discipline.*It is essential that you have membership of an appropriate professional institution*Have experience in the design of highway and open space structures and have significant knowledge of the design Manual for Roads and Bridges and the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works*You must be able to carry out the structural design of structures with minimal supervision. *You will also have experience in the inspection of structures being built to ensure they comply with approved drawings/designs/specifications and able to inspect road restraint systems for defects and compliance, specify improvements or replacement and procure and supervise specialists carrying out any works
