Your New Role

National Highways have an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in the North West region. Within this role, you will be developing feasibility studies for renewals and/or improvements, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, considering new techniques, materials, buildability and costs.

This role will be based in Warrington.

You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving licence to be considered for this position and during employment.

What youll be leading on
  • Activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
  • Development of CD622 geotechnical reports.
  • Prepare briefs and support delivery of survey works, including ground investigation specifications, that support the renewal and/or improvement of assets.
  • Preliminary design of Geotech renewals and maintenance schemes.
  • Development of forward works programme.
  • Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service.

To be successful youll need
  • Degree qualified in civil or engineering geology
  • Membership of professional Body (desirable) or working towards membership (essential)
  • Demonstrable experience in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology
  • Knowledge of ground investigation techniques and experience in scoping ground investigations and developing ground models
  • Proven ability in producing geotechnical reports including desk studies and interpretative reports, preferably with a good knowledge of CD622 reporting process.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards, methods of working & Specification for Highway Works.
