Our client is is a leading private Partnership of practicing engineers. With staff all across the UK, they deliver tailored engineering solutions to meet client needs. We are currently seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist to join our client's team.

The Role:

You will play a pivotal and permanent role within the team, overseeing geotechnical projects and assisting with workload management. Additionally, you will be responsible for the development and guidance of junior staff members, as well as cultivating relationships with clients.

The ideal candidate should possess substantial experience in project management, demonstrate leadership capabilities within technical project teams, exhibit strong technical proficiency, and possess a keen focus on customer service. It is preferable that the candidate has a diverse background across various sectors, including infrastructure, industrial, residential, commercial, and leisure developments. They should be able to provide clients with reliable, technically sound, and cost-effective solutions.

Duties:

Conducting and overseeing Preliminary Risk Assessments and Intrusive Ground investigations
Considering construction techniques, constraints, and value engineering appraisals.
Ability to deliver projects and collaborate within a multidisciplinary consultancy
Providing technically sound and commercially focused proposals and reports, tailored to meet clients' requirements.
Preparation, review, and authorisation of competent Ground Investigation Reports and Geotechnical Design Reports.
Proficiency in assessing and designing:
Slope stability.
Foundations (shallow and deep).
Earthworks specifications.
Reinforced earthworks.
Retaining structures.
Soil and rock engineering.
Ground improvement.
Ground movement and settlement/subsidence.
Mineral workings and natural cavities.
Temporary works (e.g., crane bases, working platforms).

Requirements:

Previous experience in a similar role
Up-to-date knowledge of current ground investigation techniques, sampling methods, and laboratory analysis.
A thorough understanding of ground models, geotechnical engineering properties, and soil behaviors.
A basic understanding of contaminated land legislation and the planning regime, with the support of geo-environmental specialists.
A Bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, or Civil Engineering.
Familiarity with the structural, civil, transport, planning, and landscape architecture capabilities within the broader organisation.
Proficiency in software applications such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, RocScience (Slide, RocFall), Oasys (pDisp, Xdisp), gINT, PLAXIS, and Wallap.
Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite.
Expected to hold or be near achieving chartered status.
Possession of an MSc in Geotechnics or Engineering Geology is advantageous but not essential.
