Job Description for

Lecturer in Engineering Management

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University seeks applicants for a Lecturer position in Engineering Management.  Cornell’s Engineering Management Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) program is building the next generation of technology leaders with the technical rigor and business savvy to help shape the future, turning sociotechnical challenges into opportunities. Our graduates combine technical depth with leadership, systems thinking, design thinking, and communication skills to drive innovation and excellence in technology-driven enterprises.

The Master of Engineering degree is a coursework and project-oriented program to help graduates lead people, make better decisions to advance their organization, and disrupt their field. It is heavily interdisciplinary in nature. Engineering Management requires both expertise in the techniques specific to the field and an understanding of how and why people behave as they do in the complex social systems in which they work.

The successful candidate will provide relevant and contemporary instruction within the Master of Engineering Program in Engineering Management for both on-campus and distance learning students. This person will also assist directly with: outreach for the program, ensuring positive student experiences and student success, program branding image, and marketing. Courses covering topics related to negotiations, career development, technical product marketing, product line management, innovation, disruptive technologies, and novel business models connected to the tech industry are of particular interest.

The Cornell School of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks candidates with substantial engineering leadership backgrounds in technical organizations. The successful candidate will have substantial expertise in project leadership or product management including non-traditional paradigms for project management and innovation leadership in an engineering context. In addition, candidates should have experience in finance, marketing, and negotiations/contracting in technological organizations. Skills and knowledge in strategy, technology road-mapping, and digital transformation efforts are also of interest.

The successful applicant will have 1) an undergraduate degree in engineering, or a related technical field; 2) an MBA, Master of Engineering, or a Master degree in a related field; and 3) at least 10 years of experience in leadership positions in engineering-oriented firms, ideally in entrepreneurial roles; and 4) at least one year of demonstrated teaching ability at the University level.  Strong preference for candidates with demonstration of Leadership skills with a strong technical component in either middle or upper management positions. The anticipated start date is December 2023.  The position is full time for a 5-year term and is renewable indefinitely. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the College of Engineering at Cornell embrace diversity and seek candidates who can contribute to a welcoming climate for all students. Ezra Cornell announced, "I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study."
