About the role:
Our office-based department provides Civil and Structural expertise across Substation, HVDC Converter Station, Overhead Line, and Cable projects. We are looking for a Civil/Structural Engineer with minimum five to eight years of experience to join our Digital Award winning High Voltage (HV) Civil and Structural Team based in Brighton, Altrincham and Glasgow. The role will span a diverse portfolio of work and there will be opportunities for advancement within the team.
The selected candidate will carry out work on HV Substation, HVDC Converter Station, Overhead Line and Cable projects, fulfilling tasks including:
Design and Development functions:
Design Assurance functions:

About you:
At the outset we would expect some experience in all named areas but, should your application be successful, you will have the opportunity to learn from other team members and to further develop your skills. Any prospective candidate must display a willingness to engage with new challenges as well as an ability to work confidently on tasks for which they have prior experience. Candidates should be able to demonstrate good written communication skills including report writing. The role will also require excellent communication and people skills. You will be in a client facing role and will be expected to liaise with clients and contractors both on-site and over the phone.
Candidates applying for this role must have a degree in Civil or Structural engineering. They should also be a Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE or be working towards applying chartership now. They should also be prepared to undertake leadership role and assist in further development of the team.
It is required for the prospective candidate to have previous experience as an Engineer working with Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Networks in high voltage substations and cable routing projects. They will have detailed knowledge of CDM (2015) regulations and preferably, although not essential, knowledge of transmission network operators construction practices.
Experience of Civil/structural engineering applied to converter stations would be an advantage. Including awareness of process, equipment layout and associated considerations such as RFI and fire protection.
Although the team is Brighton, Altrincham and Glasgow based, we regularly bid for projects all around the UK and Overseas. The company offers an agile working arrangement which is dependent on business priorities. This can be agreed with your manager to effectively meet client, team and personal commitments. A prospective candidate should be prepared to undertake short-term site visits to meet with clients and contractors.

- Scheme Costing
- Front End Engineering Design (FEED)
- Preparation of drawings for use in planning applications and tender packages
- Detailed Civil/Structural Design
- Cable Routing Design
- Design Coordination across multidisciplinary teams
- Preparation of Specifications
- Condition and Structural Assessment of existing structures to determine suitability for reuse
Design Assurance functions:
- Civil and structural review of designs
- Provide technical support to clients on project issues
- Attend design and interface meetings with clients and stakeholders
- Proposal writing
- Project Management and coordination across multi-disciplinary teams
- Provide National Grid TP141 acceptance of design elements if authorised
