Job Description
Mott Macdonald Bentley are recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance on a permanent basis, based in the Peterborough area.
What will you be doing as our new Geotechnical Engineer?
A site-based role undertaking geotechnical sampling and testing in advance of SPA pipelaying activity to support construction activities and ensure compaction and backfill is undertaken in accordance with the pipeline design requirements whilst maximising the utilisation of excavated material as pipeline bedding and surround.
The role will involve gathering of samples and undertaking site-based testing to support the engineering assessment of excavated materials.
The role would involve close liaison with site teams in undertaking these works and advance planning for pipe laying.
Technical support to be provided through the central SPA geotechnical team.

This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture business, both with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.

A little bit about your skills, experience, and behaviours.
- Relevant degree in geotechnical engineering / soil mechanics
- Min 2-3 years experience in geotechnical design
- Experience undertaking physical geotechnical sample testing.
- Pipe design bedding class requirements.
- Required temporary trench design based on site test data collected above (temp works design for trench by others).
- Plan and undertake intermittent earthwork construction trials to validate compaction requirement adjacent to the pipe trench in advance of pipe laying to negate the requirement for compaction validation and man entry into the trench.
- Plan additional investigations, sampling and testing where required to confirm soil classification.
