Mississippi State University is accepting applications for two faculty positions in the Richard A. Rula School of Civil and Environmental Engineering within the Bagley College of Engineering. Both are anticipated to begin August 2024 at the assistant professor level, though exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered for a higher academic rank, and start dates can be earlier than August 2024 if appropriate. For cases of higher academic rank, endowed professorship or chair positions are potentially available. Candidates are sought who compliment the school’s research and education mission in two positions:
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (tenure-track) – Geotechnical Engineering – The ideal candidate would have measurable expertise in one or more of the following: levees, slopes, embankments, dredging or dredged materials, geotechnical aspects of pavements, underground structures or facilities, or geotechnical aspects of military engineering. The ability to perform field investigations, laboratory testing, and/or applied research in one or more of these areas is preferred.
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (tenure-track) – Environmental & Water Resources Engineering – The ideal candidate would have measurable expertise in one or more of the following: protection of environmental and water resources in the coastal, estuarine, riparian and inland environments, and in the design and development of sustainable and resilient water supply and wastewater treatment systems. Priority will be given to candidates who exhibit the ability to expand the school’s current research portfolio in environmental and water resources engineering.
Successful candidates will have an earned B.S. and Ph.D., or all but dissertation, in an appropriate engineering discipline from an institution offering ABET-accredited degrees in that discipline. Professional and academic experience is highly desirable. Candidates should have a potential for sustaining a vigorous externally-funded research program and a dynamic portfolio of graduate and undergraduate educational competencies. Preference will be given to candidates with a Professional Engineering license, or who are on track for such licensure.
The school has approximately 536 students. The school offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in civil engineering with an option for a concentration in environmental engineering and maintains a highly-ranked international graduate distance education program. Research and instruction at undergraduate and graduate levels are offered in construction, environmental, geotechnical, materials, pavements, structures, transportation, and water resources engineering fields. More information is available at the school web site at http://www.cee.msstate.edu/ or by contacting the search committee at search@cee.msstate.edu.
Applicants must apply online at www.jobs.msstate.edu (PARF #506667 and #506743) by completing the Personal Data Information Form and attaching a cover letter describing their background, experience and goals regarding instruction and research. Candidates must also attach a current curriculum vitae and the contact information for three professional references. Applications are due by November 15, 2023.
