(Civil Engineering) Structural Examiner - Trainee

The Civils and Infrastructure Team at Ford and Stanley are proud to be working in partnership with Network Rail, to assist in the growth of their Structural Examination and Assessments Team.

If successful in your application, you will be working within a team that plays a crucial role in keeping our railway infrastructure safe and functioning. Individuals will have the opportunity to gain a plethora of competencies & accreditations, such as your PTS, COSS, and STE04 Examination certificate.

We are interested in hearing from career motivated experienced or non-qualified Examiners (from a rail or highways background), Civil Engineering graduates, or Construction / PTS Operatives looking to take their careers in a new direction.

As a Trainee Structural Examiner in Network Rail, they will receive dedicated, 1 to 1 training & mentorship, and once you are ready, will be signed up to an intensive training academy, provided by some of the most experienced people in the industry, through both on-site, and classroom-based learning.

Longer term, there will be wide ranging opportunities for further training and development, which will be identified through regular personal development reviews.

Salary : £28,000 - £32,500 per annum

Key Responsibilities

Carry out visual structural investigations and inspection works on a variety of structures (concrete/steel/brick), including bridges, gantries, culverts and trackside buildings.
Perform risk assessments and writeups.
Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently without supervision/
Write reports using several methods, including handwritten reports, and a tablet-based asset management system.
Skills, experience, and qualifications

BSc Civil Engineering / Vocational Equivalent OR previous construction/structural examination experience.
Good verbal and written communication skills, and a background that demonstrates the capacity to learn in a classroom environment.
Must be willing to work occasional nights/weekends (essential)
Full, clean UK driving licence (essential).
STE4 Qualification (desirable).
Have good report writing skills and be computer literate (essential).
COSS or SSSTS (desirable).
Hold a valid PTS/Sentinel Card (desirable).
