Job Description - Associate Civil Engineer
Salary - £55,000 to £80,000 per annum depending on previous experience

Position Purpose: - Reporting to Directors, as an Associate you are expected to lead a team in the form of a Mini Operating Unit within Building Design Consultants.
Responsibilities: - Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Provide specialist technical leadership and take ultimate responsibility for the team successes and failures.
Leading by example, create a well-motivated team with a strong team spirit with a collaborative behaviour and continually work to build a better and more effective team.
Work with autonomy, making considered decisions and acting on own initiative ensure works are delivered within set timeframes and to agreed deadlines
Take ownership for the mentoring and career development of members of the team including ongoing development of skills and knowledge base in both technical and management streams, providing feedback on lessons learned to continually improve the project deliverables.
Proficient in the use of BDC systems and procedures and providing guidance to others on the implementation of these.
Providing knowledge of relevant Health, Safety and Welfare regulations and promote a culture of awareness and compliance within the team.
Own ongoing Continual Professional Development through appreciation, understanding and experience of works directly relatable to ongoing tasks extending to wider subject reading and knowledge of Engineering and relatable subject's though self-study.
Manage a portfolio of projects, ensuring delivery to client requirements, programme, budget, invoicing age debt and attainment of approvals including stake holder agreements.
Control project resources and monitoring against the budget, project scope and managing fee variations.
Review MOU compliance for all projects with BDC Quality Assurance and operational procedures.
Prepare detailed appraisals and reports as may be necessary for projects and review / audit reports prepared by other members of the team / MOU's.
Provide updates to project directors in terms of the progress of tasks in line with programmes, forecast, WIP and monthly MOU reporting process.
Maintain and nurture growth of new and existing client relationships.
Leading on bid proposals and submissions.
Develop and guide the development of engineering design concepts incorporating planning, architectural, engineering, and other required systems on small, medium, large and exceptional projects.
Participate in and coordinate the resolution of design and development matters and technical issues.
Oversee the preparation of detailed analysis and design, drawings and details together with project specific technical documents at various stages of a project from conception through to tender and the construction stage.
Oversee and actively encourage engineering design development as the scheme progresses aspiring to attain the most effective, robust and efficient scheme of works.
Oversee the co-ordination of information with relevant third parties (i.e., Architects, Mechanical, Landscape Architect, Electrical Engineers, Surveyors and other members of the design team including utilities companies) to ensure consistency with BDC's Design.
Give due consideration to Environmental issues relating to the proposed works and adapt / optimise works where possible to enhance.
Carry out basic computational checks where required on scheme designs to validate complex computed design.
Review key design discipline related critical elements, in a project ensuring they fully comply with design standards and guidance and that the specific requirements are correctly translated on to drawings and details i.e., transfer beams, key elements, key storm events for attenuation storage etc.
Ensure technical excellence and accuracy of the project design and deliverables through checking and reviewing at key stages of the design process, and participate in project audits and design checks of projects in other MOU's.
