Randstad Engineering are currently recruiting for a Site Engineer to come and work for TATA Steel in Port Talbot within the Central Engineering department.

This position is a minimum 24-month contract, paying between £44,000 to £50,000 per annum. The ideal candidate will be required to be flexible with their working arrangements, with a demand to work nights and days.

Purpose Of Job

Reporting to the project manager, we are looking for an accountable project engineer to be responsible for all engineering and technical disciplines that the project involves especially around contractor engagement, scheduling/planning, execution of works and all technical activities aiming at ensuring accuracy and quality delivered by the contractors.

You will be responsible for and required to carry out all necessary safety aspects of the role including all documentation necessary to engage a contractor. Carry out all site investigations, (Site Safety, preparation of all safety documentation, site surveys, site monitoring of contractors, Liaising with Plant operations etc.). Jobholder must also engage with contractors obtaining any relevant information to fulfil his/her pre-planning requirements.

Job holder is required to have some experience in project managing or site managing activities and be able to preferably provide a knowledge of Structural Engineering service to all project and capital developments when required.

Principal Accountabilities

To be part of a team managing and monitoring all site activities (especially on nights) on the Coke Sinter and Iron Stockhouse project whilst ensuring safety is maintained to the highest levels and standards as well as ensuring the project is managed accordingly and delivered on budget, within agreed timeframes and to high standards.Able to analyse and interpret the information, offer suitable advice and see the results through. Initiates discussions, obtain detailed drawings, carry out investigations, interrogate electronic systems, collate and prepare estimates for any proposed work.Carry out inspection of the works areas collating information on safe access / egress, site clearance and safe working conditions in conjunction with Departmental Engineers/Managers.Able to generate and obtain tenders from contractors by initiating 'invitation to tender' documents complete with specification for the work based on engineering requirements development and measurements necessary using the most suitable method of documentation and conditions of contract.Able to coordinate and supervise the work of the contractor, inspecting the work when completed, issues variation orders, as and when required and be responsible for signing works completion certificates and authorise clearance certificates ensuring all defect repairs have been carried out in accordance with contract.Organises the work in conjunction with the contractors and the department Engineers/Managers: coordinates all requirements of the job such as production stoppages, PBS, authorisation to work permits, cranage, scaffolding and transport etc.

Where does this job fit in?

This position reports to the Senior Engineer and exists to carry out the necessary pre- engineering works required for the reduction in notifications and risk register that is detrimental to the business. To ensure work is completed on time, to budget and to the correct engineering standards.

The ideal candidate will -

Have theoretical knowledge to HND level/ degree level in Structural/Building/Civil Engineering or equivalent experience gained in either discipline.
