About the Role & Team:

Atlas Geotechnical has an opportunity for one P.E. or P.E.-track engineer with interest in heavy infrastructure design, construction, and troubleshooting on projects in western North America and the Pacific (Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, and farther).

  • The position involves about equal amounts of design and construction troubleshooting.
  • Travel is expected to be about 1 week out of 8, some months with none, some trips just a couple of days, and some trips up to 2 weeks long.
  • As we write this posting one of us is headed out for 3 weeks in Majuro, Tinian, Guam, and Hawaii. We need another engineer to take one of those 3 travel weeks.

Atlas is a small, founder-managed team strong on mentoring and professional development. We are 100% remote with staff in Santa Cruz, Seattle, Boise, and St. Louis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Site characterization using data almost always generated by others.
  • Design soldier pile, sheetpile, and secant pile shoring and groundwater cutoff using DeepEx.
  • Analyze pile drivability using WEAP. Produce complete submittals for review and approval.
  • Analyze site response for ground improvement design using DeepSoil.
  • Design permanent and temporary soil nail and tieback retaining walls with Slide.
  • Light CADD drafting with AutoCAD, usually preparing sketches as communication tools.
  • Travel to construction projects to facilitate executing completed designs and submittals.

 

 

Qualifications / What You'll Bring:

Education

  • Required: M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Preferred: An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering.

Experience

  • Required: 3+ years of relevant site investigation, geotechnical analysis, and geotechnical engineering construction support experience.
  • Preferred: At least a few assignments that required coordination with Superintendent, Project Engineer, and Project Manager staff on heavy construction projects.

Other

  • Availability to travel to construction sites for 0.5 – 2 week engagements up to 8x per year.
  • The most interesting problems, in our experience, rarely happen in uninteresting places.
  • U.S. work authorization Ability to pass base access screening for U.S. Department of Defense facilities
  • Ability to work independently on a remote team
  • Enthusiasm for deep excavations, piledriving, nearshore infrastructure, ground improvement, and other heavy civil construction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
