Role: Senior Civil Engineer or Structural Engineer / Consultant - Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS, formerly Magnox)

Salary + Benefits: Up to £ + outstanding benefits including 25 days holiday (27 days after 2 years, 30 days after 5 years) + bonus (up to £5.5k) + 13.5% pension + flexible benefits package

Work Pattern: Full-time, (this can be 5 days (Mon-Fri), or possibly 4 longer days (Mon-Thu)) - up tp 2 days/week in the office, though flexibility in this could be considered for the right candidate

Location: Candidates will be required to designate a 'home site, which can be any NRS site in the UK except Bradwell, Essex

Start: February 2024 onwards (long notice period would be accepted)

Our client, Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS, formerly Magnox), is looking for a skilled and highly accomplished individual to join them as a Senior Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer to help support their work in decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations at Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. This role thus offers an outstanding long-term career opportunity for the right individual.

This role would thus ideally suit a degree qualified (or other suitably experienced) Civil or Structural Engineer with a number of years experience, as well as having achieved Chartership (CEng).

The individual will primarily be responsible for checking design calculations, as well as involvement in tender review and managing inspection contracts. Thy should thus have significant concrete (and ideally steel) structures design and analysis experience, as well as other well rounded experience allowing them to lend thier hands to various things.

The role will primarily be based from home with up to 2 days/week required in the office. However, flexibility in this will be considered for the right individual. In addition, the individual will be required to undertake occasional travel to the various NRS sites around the UK. The individual will thus be required to designate a 'home' office, with any travel to other sites being covered by expenses)

Job Purpose / Overview
  • To provide technical knowledge and specialist support in the area of Civil and Structural Engineering.
  • Provide technical expert capability to the benefit of the business as a whole.
  • Maintain and develop a comprehensive understanding across broad technical areas including civil, structural and geotechnical engineering.
  • Represent the business as a technical expert.
  • Undertake Intelligent Customer and Design Authority roles in specialist areas.
  • To undertake proactive advice, guidance and assurance responsibilities across the Company.
  • Support delivery within their range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.
  • Contribute to the development of engineers' technical skills and competence as a recognised authority.

Key Deliverables
  • Support the Head of Profession - Civil in providing a competent civil and structural engineering capability.
  • Is responsible for the technical health and development of multiple technical areas.
  • As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to support delivery within their range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.
  • Proactively support the business in providing technical expertise.
  • Support the effective deployment of company-wide policies, processes, systems and procedures. Define the approach for the management of safety and compliance through the definition of arrangements within the Company Quality Management System
  • Act as a customer-focused individual. Network across the Company to collaborate, leverage broader capability and the sharing of best practice.
  • Develop and support Company metrics, ensuring regular production of management / trending information relating to the status and adequacy of safety, compliance and asset performance.
  • Act with an outward-looking mind-set, encouraging, supporting and improving whole-fleet knowledge, through cross-industry learning / benchmarking. Communicate openly and regularly with colleagues and stakeholders to report on progress and ask for support where needed. Problem solve by taking initiative and remain positive and enthusiastic.
  • Provide mentoring for engineering graduates.
  • Support the Company in the development of competency. Identify training opportunities and shared learning across sites and SLCs and external parties
  • Comply with all Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality policies and procedures and support continuous improvement

Key Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree (or equivalent) within a Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering discipline (essential)
  • Membership of a professional institute (CEng - MICE or MIStructE) (essential)
  • Demonstrable experience within the nuclear industry.
  • Experience with nuclear specific hazards, including seismic.
  • Period of relevant experience and comprehensive understanding of relevant technical area including application in the management of complex systems and arrangements.
  • Experience of delivery within a changing, complex and challenging environment, with a strong, collaborative communication style and ability to engage with and coach others.
  • Performance and career management, including Continuing Professional Development
