About the role:
Astutes Power Team are supporting a leading waste management company who own & operate a fleet of modern Energy from Waste Power stations across the UK. They have recently announced the acquisition of a number of sites and also have two further plants under construction.

As Authorising Engineer you will be responsible for the business' safety rules ensuring all site & staff are compliant for all work carried out on mechanical & electrical assets. You will be pivotal in managing the safety rules & culture whilst engaging with managers & directors to support with the coaching, development and authorisation of engineers.

Ideally, we are looking for someone who has worked in the Energy from Waste sector, or similar, and held post of an Electrical Engineer or Shift Team Leader who is Senior Authorised Person and expert on safety rules. As this is a fleet role, you will be expected to conduct frequent travel to sites across the country.

Responsibilities and duties:
As an Authorising Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Taking ownership of the safety rules relating to Permit to Work, Electrical Testing, Live Working, Substations, Switch rooms and new plant & equipment.
Managing the competency of staff involved with electrical & mechanical work, isolations including Low Voltage (LV), Mechanical and High Voltage (HV) including the written authorisation of staff.
Organising and leading Authorising Panels.
Conducting site audits to review the competency of Engineers, SAP's & Contractors. Ensuring adherence to the safety rules and in line with relevant legislation.
Developing training packages for all HV, LV and Mechanical work to comply with safety rules.
Carry out site inspections and monitor the reporting of incidents, near misses and take ownership for identifying lessons learnt.
The ongoing development & improvement of Electrical Safety Management Procedures and associated Safety documentation.
Work and contribute with the High Voltage Working Group and Safety Rules Working Group.

Professional qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:
An Engineering background with ideally a degree in Electrical Engineering
At least five years in a senior post working knowledge in the Operations & Maintenance of a Power Station
Prior background in a Supervisory role within a Power Production site, this could be CCGT, Coal, Biomass, Energy from Waste, CHP etc
Senior Authorised Person / HV Status
IOSH / NEBOSH or relevant Health & Safety qualification

Personal skills:
The Authorising Engineer role would suit someone who has:
Excellent understanding of statutory regulations relating to High & Low Voltage equipment, PSSR / Steam equipment and power generation equipment
Ability to communicate confidently
Demonstrated their competency in a similar role such as a Shift Team Leader / SAP / Electrical Engineer
