MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Engineer In Training:
 

Education, Training, and Experience: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field prior to date of hire. College seniors on track to graduate within 6 months may apply for this position. Water, waste water, storm water or road design and construction experience preferred, depending on position. 

Licenses and/ or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license. Requires the ability to acquire or demonstrate advancement toward registration as a Professional Engineer in Florida within approximately four (4) years of hire.

Engineer II:
 

Education, Training, and Experience: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field; supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience in the field of water and wastewater design and construction, including management and coordination of large water and wastewater capital projects; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.


Licenses and/ or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license. Must be a Florida Professional Engineer or have the ability to acquire licensure as a Florida Professional Engineer within six (6) months of hire.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

• Assists in project management for the planning, design and development of construction drawings, specifications and bid documents.


• Designs construction plans and specifications for county engineering projects.


• Prioritizes drafting projects and assists in Auto CAD drafting efforts.


• Assists with the administration of contracts and grants on engineering projects including preparing progress reports and disbursement request packages.


• Assists with long range planning of county infrastructure improvement needs.


• Reviews and comments on engineering designs and specifications submitted by engineers, architects and developers.


• Coordinates with the Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) on all projects that impact county infrastructure; attends meetings, reviews plans, and works with FDOT consultants on infrastructure conflicts; prepares and/or coordinates with consultants on permits with federal, state and local agencies.


• Designs and oversees the development of a database and computer aided mapping system for county utilities.


• Assists in inspections of engineering projects and prepares comment letters documents all deficiencies not meeting county standards and specifications; re-inspects and ensures comments have been addressed.


• Provides engineering and construction direction to general public and county staff.


• Troubleshoots maintenance problems.


• Prepares detailed cost estimates and time schedules for construction projects.


• Performs other duties as assigned.
