Engineer A/B (Civil/Structural – Building Envelope)
The New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) builds and renovates public schools throughout all of the boroughs. We believe that schools should be efficiently designed and constructed; they should be safe, attractive and environmentally sound. The SCA’s responsibilities span the life of each project (new schools, additions, and capital improvements to existing schools) from planning, real estate, budgeting, scoping, and designing, to construction completion
The SCA is seeking Engineers - Level A or B who will be responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.
Responsibilities Include:
Engineer - A
Perform work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed. Provide overall coordination for in-house design projects. Supervise the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications. Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies. May function as a project leader; may direct Associate Engineers/Architects and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, and/or Technical Inspectors. Perform design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects. Monitor the progress of the construction phase of the project. Conduct site observations. Prepare field reports. Supervise the review of contractor’s submittals. Review reports. Perform design review of work for engineering portions of multiple projects. Perform review for either Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) or Line Projects. Maintain and develops general understanding of architectural and engineering principles. May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.
Engineer - B
Engineer B may direct lower level Architects and Engineers, Technical Inspectors, Quality Assurance Specialists, Associate Architects and Associate Engineers, etc. Work on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g., special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects. May act as a discipline leader in a department to train and develop internal staff in the architectural discipline. May chair or participate in department seminars and workshops. Provide mentoring for professional development of lower level employees. Trains new SCA employees and contingent staff, as well as outside design consultants, on SCA standards and procedures. May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects and does design review of outside consultants. Perform the duties of Architect - A when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree plus:
Level A requires: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer.
Level B requires: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader.
Salary:
Level A: $71,693 - $111,775
Level – B: $83,732 - $130,492
