Engineer Level A, B or C

The New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) builds and renovates public schools throughout all of the boroughs. We believe that schools should be efficiently designed and constructed; they should be safe, attractive and environmentally sound. The SCA’s responsibilities span the life of each project (new schools, additions, and capital improvements to existing schools) from planning, real estate, budgeting, scoping, and designing, to construction completion 

 

The Engineer - Level A, B or C is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.

Responsibilities Include:

Engineer - A

Responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed.

 

Provide overall coordination for in-house design projects. •Perform and/or supervises the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications. Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies. May function as a project leader on several less complex design and construction projects, such as new schools, modernizations, additions, leased space, and CIP projects. Perform design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects. Monitor the progress of the construction phase of the project. Conduct site observations and prepare field reports. Supervise the review of contractor’s submittals. Review reports.

 

Perform design review of work for engineering portions of multiple projects. Perform review for either Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) or Line Projects. May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.

Engineer - B

Engineer B may direct lower level Architects and Engineers, Technical Inspectors, Quality Assurance Specialists, Associate Architects and Associate Engineers, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians.

Work on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g., special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects. May act as a discipline leader in a department to train and develop internal staff in the architectural discipline. May chair or participate in department seminars and workshops. Provides mentoring for professional development of lower level employees. Trains new SCA employees and contingent staff, as well as outside design consultants, on SCA standards and procedures. May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects and does design review of outside consultants.  May perform the duties of Architect - A when necessary.

Engineer C

The Engineer - C is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, and manages team members and/or contractors on projects to achieve the objectives of the Authority. Works as a project leader on multiple, complex construction projects and major design and exploration programs to plan, assign, direct, manage, and supervise the work of stakeholders such as Engineers, Architects, Quality Assurance Specialists, Technical Inspectors, Associate Engineers, Associate Architects, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, resolving any problems that occur. Manages multiple projects at the same time. Ensures compliance to codes, standards, and that the project is completed on schedule. Performs design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects. Assists in preparing new design standards and procedures. May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects. May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings. May perform duties of Engineer - B or Engineer - A.

Minimum Qualifications

Level A requires: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer.

Level B requires: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader

Level C requires: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and six years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility.

Current New York State Professional Engineer license must be maintained for the duration of employment for all levels.

Salary:

Level – A:  $71,693 - $111,775

Level – B: $83,732 - $130,492

Level C: $88,335 - $143,517
