Structural Engineer

You will be responsible for structural steel and concrete designs for various projects. Designs must meet project specifications and applicable design codes.  Provide technical sketches for drafting production, checking shop and construction drawings, and coordinating with vendors, outside engineers, and clients when necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop economical and competent designs. Design calculations and sketches for shop and construction drawings for development of drawings by our drafting department. Check shop and construction drawings, after produced. Assist sales with pre-bid design and layout. Coordinate design efforts with Engineering Manager and then work with Project Managers to ensure designs are implemented. Reviewing geotechnical reports on soil conditions for a specific project site as required.  No required, but it can be a useful skill at Hoffmann. Other activities would include, but are not limited to, site inspections of silos, chimneys, stacks, buildings, other structures, and writing a report with findings and recommendations. Limited travel is required for meetings or due to project responsibilities.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering (structural).
• Four years’ experience in structural steel and/or concrete design
• Have or be able to obtain a Professional Engineer license within one year of employment.
• Ability to complete layouts and design drawings for presentation to clients.
• Hands-on experience with various construction methods and materials
• Experience in Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in AutoCAD and/or Solidworks.
