Engineering Inspector

The City of Poway is looking for an Engineering Inspector! 

The Engineering Inspector performs a variety of duties involved in Inspection of Capital Improvement Projects, residential and commercial construction sites, including Stormwater inspection. Examines underground utilities, including testing. Inspects pavement for safety issues. Investigates possible illegal grading violations, and stormwater BMP inspections. Ensures conformance with applicable Federal and State laws, codes, ordinances, plans, specifications, and departmental regulations.

Receives general supervision from the City Engineer or assigned supervisor.  Exercises no direct supervision over staff.  May provide technical and function direction to lower-level staff.

Any combination of the following education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this classification.
 

Experience:

Three years of public agency engineering, public works infrastructure construction, inspection, or related experience.

Education/Training:

Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade supplemented by college-level coursework and/or specialized training in construction, engineering, or inspection.

Licenses and Certifications:

• A valid class C driver's license.
• Possess, or have the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire and maintain a Confined Space Entry Certificate.
• Possess, or have the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire and maintain a Traffic Control Supervisor Certificate issued by the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA).
• First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate, desirable.
