General Description
The purpose of this job is to design/redesign City projects and develop bidding documents, evaluate contractor bids, and oversee construction progress and scheduling. Additionally, the Construction Project Engineer provides technical support to City construction staff and assists direct supervisor. This position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign any additional job duties as deemed necessary.
Assist in the development of cost estimates Develop construction plans and bid specifications Review plans and technical documents developed by others Answer questions regarding the scope and/or timing of the project Monitor costs and project progress Maintain control of all project documentation Create, manage and track RFI’s from the field to the architect/engineer of record Maintain/update project records Assist in the development of the project schedule Coordinate project change-order management, creation and negotiation Conduct and document weekly project owner’s meetings/decisions Assist the project team with site safety documentation and coordination Assist the project team with closeout of the project Assist with monthly pay application processing Construction layout Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor’s degree in architecture, construction management, civil engineering or related field of study or two (2) years of experience in construction management, construction technology, engineering, inspections or related field.
Physical Demands:
- Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, dancing, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):
Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
- Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife. Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors. Traffic; Moving machinery. Electrical shock; Heights.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
EI Certification or ability to get within 2 years; or 1-2 architectural experience Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
