Job Details

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIVE) at Oklahoma State University is pleased to invite applications for one (1) tenure-track faculty position in the area of Geotechnical Engineering. Successful candidates must demonstrate potential for developing a strong externally funded research program. The School is especially interested in candidates that can collaborate strategically with current expertise within the department, college, and state. Candidates with research and teaching interests in all areas of geotechnical engineering will be considered, including foundation engineering, soil-structure interaction, slope stability, biogeotechnics, energy geotechnics, ground improvement methods, unsaturated soil mechanics, geo-environmental engineering, and computational geotechnics.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to utilize the Bert Cooper Engineering Research Laboratory, a 33,000 ft2 state-of-the-art structural engineering and materials engineering research laboratory with 6,000 ft2 strong floor high bay testing area (https://ceat.okstate.edu/cive/research/bert-cooper/index.html). Candidates will also have access to the High-Performance Computing Center (https://hpcc.okstate.edu). Moreover, CIVE currently boasts well-equipped teaching and research laboratories dedicated to the geotechnical engineering program.

The successful candidate must have an academic background to teach undergraduate courses in geotechnical engineering in the Civil and Environmental Engineering curriculum, as well as offer new and/or existing graduate courses in their area of expertise. A Ph.D. in, or closely related to, Civil and Environmental Engineering is required. It is expected that candidates can become licensed as a Professional Engineer within 6 years of appointment. 

 

Oklahoma State University is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, approximately 60 miles from both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The School currently has 19 faculty members, 186 undergraduate students, and 69 graduate students. The School is a unique blend of teaching and research excellence. Research expenditures are approximately $200,000 per faculty member. The OSU Civil Engineering program has undergone a major expansion through the construction of new offices and classrooms, as well as the new Endeavor Lab. The Endeavor Lab is a 72,000 sf interdisciplinary undergraduate laboratory opened in the fall semester of 2018.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Equivalent Degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical or Geo-Environmental Engineering. A strong record of research and scholarly publications in relevant areas. Licensed as a Professional Engineer within 6 years of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Background in one or more fields of geotechnical engineering. A research agenda that complements existing strengths in the department and the university. Evidence of mentoring students and collaborating effectively with colleagues. Appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level requires an established scholarship and funding record.
