BMS Project & Energy Management Engineer - Dorset & Hampshire
Background:
Hurtwood is an engineering and energy consultancy and product company that:
1. Manufactures the Modbus Satrofit retrofit cards for the upgrading of obsolete Satchwell BAS 2800 and Sigma BMS and the conversion of Satchwell BMS logic to the Niagara framework.
2. Assists clients with reducing energy use and integrating low carbon technologies into their building services.
3. Carries out the design and implementation of new BMS installations and refurbishments of control systems for heating and ventilation plant. Typically we achieve energy savings of 15-35% and our list of clients includes significant public sector bodies such as the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Trust, Stroud District Council, Bristol City Council, Bath University and a growing number of industrial clients.
4. Project manages BMS refurbishments on behalf of a wide range of clients and provides a wide range of consultancy assistance across BMS and building services. This can vary from very high level assessments down to the day-to-day project management of BMS refurbishment works.
I am looking for an individual who wants a satisfying & varied energy & project management role helping to:
1. manage the refurbishment of BMS systems across a number of the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust's sites and similar sites along the South Coast of England. The UHDNFT's chosen platform is Niagara with Modbus IO.
2. Optimise the new BMS systems to reduce energy use, potentially by upto £1million.
As such, I am looking for an individual who is based within Dorset or Hampshire.
You will be working with BMS installers and services engineers to achieve high quality and effective BMS refurbishments of many of the existing BMS systems, many of which are life expired. The work is very rewarding and has the scope to have a significant amount of positive environmental impact.
Requirements:
I am looking for an individual who has pre-existing experience within building services and building management systems but who is looking to step up to the next professional level. Full training, coaching and mentoring in the skills required to operate at this level will be provided. I put more weight on aptitude and commitment than pre-existing skills as these can be taught. What is key is an enthusiasm, focus and organisational skills that allow us to work productively and effectively. However, skills you will need to bring are:
1. good communication skills are a pre-requisite. Moreover, candidates need to be able to demonstrate that they can communicate effectively and efficiently by phone rather than simply by e-mail.
2. You will often be mentoring our growing number of graduates so good subordinate development skills are important.
3. Proficiency with Microsoft office products and an understanding of electrical drawing packages although full training will be given in the ones we use.
Specific roles and responsibilities:
1. Carrying out surveys of existing BMS installations under the guidance of Hurtwood's director Kevin Williams.
2. Assisting with our consultancy efforts with roles such as gathering an understanding of users perceptions of the control of the internal environment within buildings and their priorities such as control of energy use and costs. This will also involve obtaining policy and strategy documents from organisations so as to understand the background against which our work will be set. There will also be more routine tasks such as photographing building services plant and buildings and cataloguing the results.
3. Production of reports on the condition of existing installations and producing specifications and points schedules for upgrade work.
4. Updating electrical panel drawings.
5. The engineering of graphical interfaces for everyday users within the Niagara engineering framework. If you don't have it already, full Niagara N4 training, leading to N4 Certification, on this will be given as well as instruction by our engineers.
6. Assisting the Trust with the networking requirements for the new BMS and full training will be given on this.
7. The analysis of the energy performance of the BMS across both the UHDNFT and our other clients. To achieve this you will use analytics tools available through Niagara and developed by ourselves. You will use energy consumption data to analyse energy performance and target improvements. We will give you a full understanding of metering arrangements for heat, gas and electricity and how to analyse this data.
8. The preparation of quotations for Hurtwood's products and consultancy services and the understanding of customers' requirements. Again, full training on the systems that we work with and refurbish will be given so that you can meet customers' requirements as effectively as possible.
9. Working with and managing our graduates and undergraduates on our apprenticeship schemes to develop their skills within BMS and building services while achieving a considerable throughput of consultancy work.
