We are seeking an experienced individual to apply their technical knowledge of construction materials to support the Manager of our Construction Materials Department.
The Role
The Construction Materials Department at Sandberg undertakes a range of mechanical and physical testing on construction materials including concretes, aggregates, renders, mortars, stone, brick, screeds and flooring materials (including slip resistance testing). The department undertakes testing both on site and in the lab as well as taking samples for later testing. This role is to provide support on producing technical reports and coordinating the work of the department. This will include:
The Person
You will have strong knowledge of construction materials including testing and ideally have a knowledge of fresh and hardened concrete. Report writing skills and a practical nature are essential, as is the ability to handle many live projects at once. Strong English language skills are important, both written and verbal. You should have:
· Degree or equivalent qualification in materials science or engineering.
· Background in construction materials testing and inspection including a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
· Ability to draft/review technical reports.
· Knowledge of relevant BS/EN standards.
· Strong understanding of defects/deterioration mechanisms within concrete construction.
· Some management/supervisory experience.
· Good verbal and written communication.

The Role
The Construction Materials Department at Sandberg undertakes a range of mechanical and physical testing on construction materials including concretes, aggregates, renders, mortars, stone, brick, screeds and flooring materials (including slip resistance testing). The department undertakes testing both on site and in the lab as well as taking samples for later testing. This role is to provide support on producing technical reports and coordinating the work of the department. This will include:
- Review customer enquiries and interact with customers to understand their requirements.
- Provide detailed quotations for work laying out approximate timescales.
- Generate technical reports based on test results for sending to customers.
- Plan jobs for the site team and arrange necessary logistics to ensure all necessary equipment and transportation is available.
- Manage projects from inception to invoicing.
- Ensure the safety of your colleagues by collating the necessary information and preparing RAMS.
- Ensuring clear communication internally and with other departments to progress jobs.
- This is a mainly office-based role, but visits to customers' sites will form part of the responsibilities.
