About the School of Building Construction at the Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of Building Construction at Georgia Tech offers a B.S. in Construction Science and Management, an M.S. in Building Construction and Facility Management, a Master of Real Estate Development, an undergraduate minor in Sustainable Development and Construction and a Ph.D. in Building Construction. The School also offers a Professional Master’s in Occupational Safety and Health. The revitalized B.S. in Construction Science and Management provides an opportunity to educate students who will be leaders in bringing advanced technology to the construction industry. The Master of Real Estate Development provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the development process from conception to finance and through to construction.
The School benefits from strong collaborations with the Schools of Architecture, City and Regional Planning, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. The faculty have a robust research program that provides students at all levels with an opportunity to explore the major issues facing the construction industry. The School has a vibrant and highly engaged Advisory Board with more than 40 members. Job Responsibilities
The Chair will have the opportunity to build upon the success of the School of Building Construction, driving innovation and excellence as we lead the construction industry and education into the 21st century. The new Chair will be expected to provide overall leadership and vision for the development of a comprehensive program of teaching and research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and will teach undergraduate and graduate courses. The Chair manages academic, fiscal, and personnel matters and links the School of Building Construction to the strategic objectives of the College and Institute. The Chair will develop synergies among the programs within the School and create strong interdisciplinary relationships with other schools within the College of Design and across campus. The Chair will work with community and corporate leaders through the School’s Advisory Board. The Chair will collaborate with the Director of Development and advisory board members to elevate community awareness, enhance fundraising efforts, and establish donor partnerships.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Candidates must have a terminal degree in Building Construction, Construction Management, Architectural, Structural or Civil Engineering, or a closely related field with a distinguished record of scholarly achievement that qualifies for a tenured position. A Ph.D. degree is preferred.
The candidate must maintain an active commitment to the profession and to the promotion of excellence in teaching and research. Candidates must illustrate the ability to engage with community and corporate leaders through the industry advisory board and work effectively with faculty, students, and administrators. Significant experience in academic and/or research administration is desirable.
The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment is anticipated on or about July 1, 2025.
