Job Details
The Assistant Director of Engineering will plan direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Advanced Planning, Project Delivery (Design/ Survey), Traffic Engineering, Wastewater Engineering, Stormwater Management, Development and Utility Permit Inspection, Waster Management and Fiscal Sustainability sections; serve as the City Engineer; coordinate major engineering activities with other divisions and departments; and to provide highly complex staff assistance to the Deputy City Manager/Director of Public Works.
Other responsibilities include:
- Provide overall direction on city and Departmental goals and objectives; develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
- Plan, develop, and implement development automation and other departmental technology.
- Plan, organize, direct and participate in budget preparation and administration of the Department’s operating budget, sewer budget and/or Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budget.
- Oversee the department’s human and financial resources including organizational and staff development.
- Develop and implement the department work plan; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
- Confer with and represent the department and the City in meetings with members of the City Council, members of boards and commissions, various governmental agencies, developers, contractors, business and industrial groups and the public; explain and justify department programs, policies and activities; negotiate and resolve sensitive, significant and controversial issues; and participate in outside community and professional groups and committees.
- Prepare and make presentations to the City Council, City Management, and the public.
