Civil Engineering Manager
Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU), the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated, experienced civil engineering manager to support DU in our wetland restoration efforts within the Great Lakes geography (primarily Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin). This position will be operating out of DU’s Dexter, Michigan regional office. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland, riparian, and coastal restoration and enhancement projects. This position offers high job satisfaction for those interested in work that benefits wildlife and communities.
Qualifications
Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program, be a registered professional engineer, have a minimum of 10 years of experience in civil engineering design, and have 2 years of concurrent experience in a management or supervisory role.
Candidates with a strong background in ecological restoration and water resources will be viewed favorably. Experience with Autodesk Civil3D, land surveying, and construction management and inspection is desired. Demonstrated oral, written and effective communication skills are required. Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented, and able to solve problems while working in close team-based relationships.
Specific duties include:
- Oversees a dynamic engineering program and supervises a highly motivated engineering team responsible for scoping, planning, designing, bidding and construction/budget management of habitat restoration and enhancement projects.
- Coaches engineering team to interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services related to habitat delivery.
- Ensures compliance with project delivery agreements, permits, industry standards, and procurement conditions.
- Develops and administers QA/QC procedures associated with the engineering program.
- Prepares and/or reviews proposal scope of work, budgets, and schedules in close coordination with regional engineers and biological staff.
- Prepares supporting documents, reviews contracts, ensures contract compliance, and manages project budgets for construction and consultant contracts.
- Participates in annual budget development for a three-state region.
- Ensures that engineering staff resources are allocated appropriately to complete programmatic workload in collaboration with the Manager of Conservation Programs.
- Coordinates with other Engineering Managers to increase consistency and efficiency across the region.
- Identifies opportunities for potential growth in cooperation with the Manager of Conservation Programs.
- Performs and/or supports coordination, training, recruitment, hiring, and retention of staff.
- Develops relationships with the goal of promoting the company’s habitat delivery and engineering program and represents DU in a professional manner.
The successful candidate will work under the Director of Engineering Services to provide management and support of a team of engineers, engineering technicians, designers, and construction managers. Teamwork and coordination with other DU staff outside of the engineering group is essential. The position will include occasional travel.
