Principal Civil Engineer

Working for a stable but growing consultancy where your skills and experience will see you front and centre of everything good about what we do.
Hybrid work opportunities to work from our offices in Birmingham, Leeds or Exeter HOWEVER for the right person any location can work with an occasional need to be on site or in an office.
Predominantly working within the Water industry but may cover wider utilities and infrastructure.
Full time, Permanent
You'll lead with a focus on quality, sustainability, and safety, navigating every stage of design and asset management. Your role will also involve crafting briefs, defining scopes of work, and contributing to bid proposals. With a keen eye on timelines and budgets, you'll ensure projects sail smoothly to their milestones.
In addition to growing your own skills, you'll foster development in your team, helping everyone chart a course to success.
Qualifications needed: Degree in Civil or Structural engineering is essential. Chartered Engineer, member of IStructE or ICE.
Skills and experience overview
Extensive experience of RC design and detailing including water retaining structures, soil retaining structures, foundation design.
Experience of steelwork design.
Working knowledge of geotechnics and soil-structure interactions.
Experience of the water / utilities sector an advantage
Ability to prepare, review and approve civil designs.
Knowledge of computational analysis techniques and software, knowledge of BIM is an advantage.
Ability to inspect, diagnose and make recommendations relating to re-use or adaptation of existing structures.
Knowledge of established and emerging construction techniques.
Track record of commitment to sustainability: re-use of existing structures and materials; design for low carbon construction, etc
Ability to contribute to project and business management - resource planning, fee estimation etc.
Understanding of cost and contract management is an advantage.

Takes ownership of the role and leadership in growing Aqua's capability.
Collaborative team player - ability to lead and participate in multi-disciplinary teams.
Client facing - ability to forge and maintain excellent Client relationships
Excellent communicator - able to explain complex structural concepts to a range of audiences including Clients, Contractors, junior and senior colleagues.
