Site Manager - Civil Engineering & Groundworks
Location:
Mold, County of Flintshire
Salary:
£50,000 - £60,000 including Vehicle + Package

Job Overview:
The Site Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations on-site, ensuring that groundworks, civil engineering and construction projects are executed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. They will manage site staff, subcontractors and ensure compliance with industry standards, client specifications and health & safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management:
Lead and manage civil engineering and groundworks projects from inception to completion.
Monitor and coordinate all on-site activities, including excavation, foundations, drainage and utilities installation.
Ensure adherence to the project plan, specifications and timeline.
Manage and supervise direct labour, subcontractors and suppliers.
Review drawings and plans to understand project requirements.
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE):
Implement and maintain high standards of health and safety on-site.
Conduct regular site inspections and ensure compliance with HSE regulations.
Prepare and update risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
Ensure that all staff, contractors and visitors adhere to site safety protocols.
Budget and Cost Control:
Monitor project costs and ensure they align with the agreed budget.
Identify and address any variances or potential cost overruns.
Manage procurement and the ordering of materials, equipment and labour.
Liaise with quantity surveyors to monitor project progress and cash flow.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure that all works are completed to a high standard, in line with technical specifications and client requirements.
Coordinate inspections and testing (such as concrete and soil tests) to ensure quality control.
Manage defects, snags and resolve issues to ensure a defect-free project.
Client and Stakeholder Liaison:
Maintain clear and regular communication with clients, consultants and other key stakeholders.
Attend client meetings, provide progress updates and manage expectations.
Handle any client concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
Team Leadership:
Lead, motivate, and manage the on-site team, ensuring productivity and high morale.
Conduct toolbox talks, briefings and on-site inductions.
Ensure that all personnel on site are adequately trained and competent.
Programme and Scheduling:
Develop and manage the project programme, ensuring the timely delivery of each phase.
Track progress against the schedule and make adjustments as required.
Ensure coordination between various trades and subcontractors to avoid delays.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate site records, including daily logs, progress reports and as-built records.
Prepare reports for senior management on project status, risks and opportunities.
Ensure that all paperwork, including timesheets, deliveries, and site records, is properly completed and filed.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential:
Proven experience in site management, within civil engineering or groundworks.
Strong knowledge of groundworks (excavation, foundations, drainage, earthworks) and civil engineering practices.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Strong understanding of construction health and safety standards (including CDM 2015 regulations).
Proficiency in project management software and MS Office applications.
SMSTS certification.
First Aid at Work qualification.
Temporary Works Coordinator certificate (TWC).
CSCS.
Personal Attributes:
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, able to motivate and manage teams.
Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.
Proactive problem-solver with the ability to handle challenging situations.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Experience Required:
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Site Manager or Senior Site Engineer within civil engineering, groundworks or a related field.
Proven track record of delivering groundworks and civil engineering projects on time and within budget.
Experience working on projects involving drainage, utilities, highways or infrastructure.
